I want to buy a hardtail mountain bike mainly for road use but also some canal routes, steep roads unsuitable for road bikes and rough roads + a little offroading.
Which is my best option:
1)Carrera fury new or used
2) Voodoo Hoodoo (400 in halfords)
3) http://www.gumtree.com/p/bicycles/trek- ... 1108675997

Im planning to get some michelin county rock tyres: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/mich ... p-prod8547 or continental sport contacts: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/cont ... -prod18829

Which is the best combination and also can upgrade any bike parts over time.

The Trek is a very good buy, price is suspiciously cheap though so I'd be suspicious. Just round the corner from me as well!
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

Looks alright to me - seller can string a sentence together. It's a 5 year old high end aluminium XC race bike, which was a pretty tough sell in the first place, add in that it now has the 'wrong' size wheels and it doesn't seem that dodgy.

In which case, definitely the Trek.
