Clipless Pedals

Ok guys, So I'm currently riding a carrera hybrid with flat pedals. Now before September I'm hoping to have a road bike, so do I wait until then and get clipless pedals with the new bike or do I take the plunge now and replace my flat pedals on the hybrid?

You can of coarse use the hybrid as a testcase for pedals, it's up to you.
I recommend SPD SL...........0 -
Get used to them now so your new bike doesn't get scratched when you have your inevitable fall.0

Yup, I would also replace now. I have one sided clipless pedals on my Carrerra hybrid, one side is a flat pedal and the other is a mtb spd.
That way on long rides I ride clipless with my mtb shoes, and for short hops around town I can still pedal comfortably with normal shoes.
Don't get these pedals with road shoes though- the exposed small metal cleat is very dodgy to walk on and you can't pedal on the flat side of the pedal as the cleat will glance off- only use with recessed cleat mtb shoes.
You could put road style cleats on for now, as you can just about pedal on those pedals in ordinary shoes but its not as convenient for hops around town.0 -
Thanks for the replies.
Was looking at these - http://www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-pd-r540 ... rt-pedals/
anyone got any idea if I can put the cleats on a pair mountain bike shoes then?0 -

No. These are SPD-SL compatible only which are road cleats for road shoes.

ok. has anyone got any recommendation as to what pedals/shoes combos to get? Preferably with mountain bike shoes so I can also walk in them a little easier ?0

Shimano m520 pedals, they are cheap, very reliable and long lasting.

Fantastic ! and all for around £50. Cheers guys.0 -
Just a word of warning, in my experience Shimano shoes are smaller/narrower than the sizing would suggest, so try a pair on before you buy!0
