I installed one of these :

about 4000 miles ago. About a month back it developed play - no creaking or roughness - removed it and because it's about £50 for a new one tried cleaning it up and reinstalling and somehow the play has gone so continued to use it.
Today it develops play again so I've taken it out. Before I pull the trigger on a new one is there something I may be doing wrong here ? If I can put it back in, refit the cranks and the play has gone again can I assume I'm just not tightening the thing up enough ? It's definitely not a case of the cranks being loose on the taper the movement is coming from the axle/spindle.

Those are non adjustable so there is nothing you can do. How much play have you actually got?0

Sounds like 1 of the cups might be unscrewing a bit over a period of time, try refitting with some loctite on the threads.0

Is it Italian threaded? They have a habit of unscrewing the drive side cup.0
