Hi all,

So I am going to start my upgrade to di2 this weekend. I bought the gear kit from Merlincycles and I have already upgraded the chainset and brakes to 6800.

Any tips for installing please? Feeding cables, sealing up where the mechanical cables go in or any other good stuff please?

Thank you

I recently installed it onto my Propel. Was really easy.

I laid it all out on the floor in the right order to check it all worked. Then slowly put it onto the bike. kept everything loose and checking that it all works as I went along.

Then finally joined all the parts to the frame.

The little rubber gromits might be a problem. I dont know what comes with the upgrade kit. But it doesnt stop you completing the build.

Thank you, what did you do around the bottom bracket please? stuff the junction box up with some foam or something ?

You use cable ties on the wires (and maybe box itself). You don't cut them and the excess should hold it in place like springs.

Westbrook do the grommets (other places are available). You need to know whether you have a 6mm hole or oval ones.

The only other thing I would say is to download the Dealer Manual from Shimano, it's been helpful to me so far. I've just finished doing the wiring runs.

The only other thing that I have seen and will be doing myself is to use some heatshrink on the downtube wire (assuming it's a NDS hole) and the rear brake cable just to hold them together to keep it neat.

Oh! and one more thing :) You might want to consider something like this from Raceware direct rather than having to use elastic bands to hold the Di2 box on. They can do any angle so it will fall in line with your stem (though the standard is 6 degrees)

Just 'stuffed' it in, not with any foam though.

    Internal battery or not?

Thats something that comes to mind that I had to do extra. I have the ISP version and there are different thoughts on this. Foam round the battery, bar tape maybe. I have seen the foam used on Ridley Noah's. Giant seat tubes are narrower though. Giant do a part that fits round the battery and then you put it down the down tube - Worth finding out soon, then you wont have to wait longer for extra parts.

Don't remove any of the internal mechanical cables until you have threaded inner tube from brake cables long their length.

Then you can run the electrical wires through without needing a magnet and load of fiddling.

Cheers all, some good tips started the strip down today but stupidly I forgot that i will need to buy a BB removal and refit tool! Oh well..... are BB71 press fit reusable ? I cant see why not if I don't mash it removing.

I have got an internal battery, I intend to whittle a deda 27mm sleeve to fit my aero seat post (or at least that is the plan).

Izza - I have pulled out the inner guide cables, damaging one of them (need to fit a spare, the bugger was stuck! :( ) I have got a sleeve fitted for running the rear brake cable though!

I also bough the shimano like zip ties to stop the wire rattling.

Mark - my kit came with the grommets for the "wire in" and the front derailleur, there is nothing for the rear derailleur so there will be a gap here (thinking black silicon or a rubber tube around the wire).

Brett - I saw your thread and have contacted them about an 8º clip already

Sugru is good for making up grommets if you're missing any, but you can also buy the grommets in packs.

I like this, good idea, and better than the strap that Shimano gives you and spoils your stem.

But my stem is already slammed - I don't have any spacers...:((

Bernie, they've just released another one that has the Garmin mount and box holder integrated into it, so maybe another thought for you

Well I ordered the raceware steerer tube mount, so it should be with me in a couple of weeks..... I have run the cables in the frame and pretty much everything has finally arrived so the bike will be built back up Friday afternoon hopefully :)
