Shimano Rear Mech Bent?

I have re-built my summer bike, and indexing is not as smooth as on my winter bike. All new PTFE cables with no snagging, hanger aligned across both planes.
There is no play in the pivots, no obvious signs of damage but the cage just looks like it is out of alignment. But then I look again and it looks OK when I compare it to my winter bike.
Short of forking out £100 for a new rear mech, is there a way I can determine of my rear mech is bent?
