Hello!

I currently ride a Specialized hardrock MTB that has 29.x2.0 tyres on them. Not been using it off road lately and I was wondering can road bike tyres fit on my MTB. I have been told that 29er's wheel size can fit 700c tyres. Has anyone ever done this? I'll be using it to commute to work on, all roads, will it affect the handling? etc etc...

thanks for any help you peeps can give me.

Buy a 29" tyre that has little or no tread. You must be able to get a 29x1.75 that's pretty smooth. A 700 will not fit. (You could prob fit a 700 WHEEL in the frame with a bit of brake adjustment but that's a different story)

A 700 will fit, if the rim width is suitable. 29er and 700c both have the same bead diameter.

I've been running 25c contis on 29er rims for about 5 years.

The rims aren't any wider than the newer road rims that everone is getting all tingly in the groin area about.

29er = 622 ERTO = 700c. Rim size is the same, but make sure the tyre is wider than the rim or you'll get rim strike.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

hey peeps. thanks for your replies. after reading your post, First Aspect, I went down to evans cycles and I have ordered marathon plus tyres, 700 x 28c. very pleased that they also agreed to do a price match to wiggle. evans cycles quoted me £38 each for the marathon plus but wiggle had them on for £23 and evans cycles agreed to do it at that price. cant wait to get my back next week and commute to work on it :D

hello everyone. I got my bike back today from evans cycles and I've gone for gatorskin road tyres, 700cx28.

When I got my bike it did look a bit weird first with the clearance between tyre and the top of the fork for example. I have ridden it 10 miles today and felt really good and felt nice and fast on the flat and downhill was very grippy but the tyres seem to be only slightly wider than the rim width. I was assured a few days ago by the bike mechanic that 700x28 will be fine. I see above the someone has put on 25 width tyres on but I suppose I just wanted to make sure.....
