What should Jeremy Clarkson do next? You read it here first

Well, clearly, given that in the last week Clarkson has been repeatedly photographed on his bike, it will be a cycle show, called, obviously, Top Sprocket. It will have the following features:

There will be a skin suited, full face helmet wearing professional cyclist who each week will test ride the newest bikes round a criterium circuit. People will be able to speculate as to whether it is Chris Froome, Bradley Wiggins, Alberto Contador, or... Someone you've never heard of.

Each week, A Star On A Badly Set Up Bike From Halfords will wobble unconvincingly round the same circuit in times that are comically slower than the mystery pro. Beforehand, they will reminisce about how their first bike was a tricycle with pictures of Noddy on it, or something similarly uncool.

Each week the team will take part in a ludicrous challenge, starting with an attempt to cycle to the moon on the Goodies' trandem.

Each week James May will insist that his favourite bike of all time is the Raleigh Shopper.

There will be a regular comedy feature in which Richard Hammond falls repeatedly off a Pinerello.

Anyone want to refine this winning format? (In particular, what should the Stig on a bike be called?)

I suspect this may be a tad more serious than you mean but One I really would like to see is a competition between cyclists of different genres all trying each others thang. e.g. an XC, DH, BMX, Trials, TT, Roadie, Track Sprinter, Track endurance etc rider all riding each others races to see who was most specialised/most balanced

Clarkson is probably too busy with his new interests to get involved in this:

We pushed several Eco projects to the top gear team in the last 2 years and "none were inine with the shows current format"
Fuel efficiency and gasses from cars is something I am hugely passionate about and have spent the last few years tirelessly working in this sector, not so much for the reasons some use but for the waste reason. The problem is I just don't think the world is truly ready for it yet.

Technology is here to reduce Nox and Sox as well as Co/Co2 emissions and at the same time increase economy.
Manufacturers are still siding with monetary aspects rather than releasing their best efficiency which they don't need to do. It's a waste when they release several versions of a car wth different economy scales and offer lower to fleet than they do to General consumers.
I worked with the biggest fleet in the UK a couple of years ago and saved them £4,000,000/year in fuel bills doing only the manufacturer could of easily implimented.

V-Tech - how easy is something like that (whatever it is you did) to implement on a normal road car? Is it cost-effective? Is it make/model limited? Would be interesting as I want a runabout to drive long distances only (Wales, Cornwall, Scotland etc) so may be worth having looked at as another option, rather than just buying something cheap, as I would imagine it would add quite a lot of value to the car.

It really depends on the vehicle and use as to how much you save but the general rule of thumb is 8-12% on a diesel and 4-7% on gasoline.
Basically, he harder the engine works, the greater the saving.

Engines waste huge amounts on idle rpm, reducing idle control can save 3-4% alone on a general road car with a reduction of 75-100rpm without causing drive issues.
For the BT contract I did we worked mainly on Ford and Opel diesel engines.

Interesting. Could you PM me details of a 1.2l diesel bluemotion polo? It does have stop-start but rarely used.

Not totally sure of mileage but does a daily commute from Chelsea to Windsor, so city driving, fair amount of lights, stop start, acceleration and motorway.

Just an idea of price and cost-effectiveness would be interesting.
    Thanks
