Disc Brake Holding Pin

So I took out my disc brake pads out of the housing to give them a clean.

However, when I put the brake pads back into the housing and re-applied the holding pin, I tightened the pin too hard which resulted in the head of the pin snapping and lodging itself to the Allen key.

The pin itself is sitting correctly in its housing and the brakes still function, which is fine.

So I guess I have a few questions:

1. Is there any risk of the pin coming out whilst I'm cycling?

2. How can I go about removing the pin in future, given that the head of the pin is no longer there?

3. How would I get the head of pin removed from the Allen Key?

    1. Yes. There is no tension holding it in so can vibrate out.
    2. See 1. Long nosed pliers maybe.
    3. Grab it with pliers and use some of that excessive strength.

i'd take the caliper off, move the pads a little and use pliers on the exposed pin to turn it. you might even be able to use a small pair of mole grips to clamp it - much easier if so.

On many callipers the pin sticks out the otherside, so I would be using some grips on that exposed tip.

    Cheers guys.

I managed to get the pin out and also got the snapped head removed from the Allen Key.

Now where do I get a replacement holding pin?

    Just use a split pin.
