Respraying frame

I have little to no eye for design, but I do appreciate a nice looking bike.

I am selling my winter bike (below) and replacing it with a Boardman Carbon. Annoyingly all my clothing is blue/black which rather well matches the Coppi, and doesn't really go with the Boardman.

This is my actual bike (I have alu wheels for wet days)

To be sprayed like

(My outgoing bike)

I don't have the inclination nor the means to replace my wardrobe as I don't want to look like a bee, nor do I fancy a load of nike/livestrong kit.

I had this slightly crazy idea of respraying the board man frame the same as the coppi frame, except where is says Fausto Coppi, have Boardman and San Remo replaced with Pro Carbon.

What are peoples thoughts? Possibly utter madness/waste of money, but may work out!

    Spray all your clothes black.

    Serious thread?
  • IMHO, Boardman looks great - leave well alone.

Coppi is from the past - not always good to go retro on new things - think VW Beetle / BMW MINI etc etc....
All the gear, but no idea...

Sounds like a job to be left to the pro's - but won't be cheap. £450 per frame quoted on this website

But I suppose you could spend close to that amount on new clobber to match the Boardman so if it floats your boat then go for it. Plenty of re-spray outfits out there but I'd look for one with some good testimonials and/or local to you so that you can visit and discuss your needs.

Yeah that was the fear. Probably the same as new kit. Maybe just use a magic marker and go over the yellow...haha
  • If you really want to do this find a local company that do powdercoating which is much more durable that paint. I bought a Tricross on fleabay that was a faecal brown colour. Got it powdercoated to silver for £50. Now looks fab and much better. Don't spend hundreds of pounds repainting! Good luck

I do not think powder coating carbon fibre is a good idea!
  • Missed the carbon bit. My apologies but agree with lesfirth that it's not a good idea and probably not possible.

No the powder coating process needs a high temperature curing stage that would be the death nell of any carbon frame.
