Specialized Diverge tyres

To replace my road bike that has just been totaled after a car hit me I've been looking at a cyclocross bike to replace it. Good braking is something that will help me get my confidence back and riding again. Looking at the tyres - Specialized Espoir Sport, 60TPI, wire bead, double BlackBelt protection, 700×30c - I'm thinking these may not be the best in terms of grip. Does anyone have any suggestions or comments they can share?
