Power Meters

Hello,
I am after some help please.
I have been using TrainerRoad over the winter, which turns your trainer / rollers into a virtual power meter, don't ask me how. Anyway I quite like the the training to power thing, it is an easy metric and very translatable to inputs and changes in technique etc., much better than heart rate etc.
So now I have migrated from the rollers back out onto the road, I am missing the power figures.
The question is, does anyone know anything about power meters, specifically pedal based systems and more importantly would I need two, one for each pedal or would a single side be ok? I am only really interested in power outputs not really bothered about pedal stroke efficiency etc.
Any help or insight would be very much appreciated as the whole power meter thing is not a cheap hobby.
Thanks in advance.

Guess work?I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles0 -
Trainerroad uses known power profiles for popular trainers typically the better quality ones. It's possible to plot a speed vs power curve on a chart with reasonable accuracy. e.g. 35 km/h on my Cycleops Fluid 2 = 307 watts.Strava Profile: http://app.strava.com/athletes/20060660
