Replacing my brakes

Hello, I have a Boardman Comp 2014 that has black tektro brakes on there. I want to make all components silver to match the from so I bought some 105 bakes (5700 i think) from ebay, second hand but great condition.
I have tried to fit them today but they are about 3mm too short. What I mean is that the brake pads are slightly touching the tyre when I pull the brakes. Are there differnt size brakes out there? I really didn't think to checlk or am I missing something?

Yes there are different "drop" brakes, ie a different distance from the securing bolt to the lowest pad position possible - but (and forgive me if this sounds daft) have you actually adjusted the pads as low in the callipers as they will go? I would have thought the Boardman would be ok with the 105 brakes myself (but maybe not...)0

I had exactly the same issue on my Roux. You need what are called 'long drop' calipers, check out Shimano R650 brakes. I replaced my Tektros with them and they are night and day better.0

Your Boardman Comp has long reach 'drop' calipers fitted as standard to enable the bike to be fitted with full length mudguards, so you need to replace them with like for like, as mentioned above e.g. Shimano R650. Unfortunately as you have discovered the 105 calipers are to short.

R650's are very good brakes and much better than the cheap tektro's most bikes come with. My wife was very pleased with the upgrade.0
