Vredestien tyre splitting - should I be worried?

Went out for a shot ride this morning. Noticed a series of splits either side of the centre band on my relatively new (less than 150 miles on typical Kent roads) Vredestien Senso All Weather tyres. Pic attached. One is around 18 inches long. There are also some smaller less pronounced ones on the rear.

Should I return them to Ribble for replacement? Or is it nothing to worry about?

Thanks!

Best to return them... looks like perished rubber to me.

Thanks very much. Back they go!
  • How long ago did you buy them? if they are within the returns period, I would definitely return them.

I rode on tyres with big splits like that for quite some time, never had any problems but it is always a gamble.

Since Christmas, so I think it's a warranty return. Now that I have them off the rims it's clear how consistent the splits are. Not very deep, but it feels like it's the line where the compound changes at the centre of the tyre.

I'm inclined to give another set a go. They're very nice tyres in the main.

Small cuts I would normally just glue, but those are long and do not look normal for newish tyres.

I used to use Vredestein Fortezza Tri thingies a few years back.

I blew out both tyres in one hidden pothole in a race - looking at the tyres they'd started to go like yours have - so I'd definitely send them back. They were used but not a huge amount.

    I swear by GP4000S now.

I used to like the Fortezza Tri Comps too but I found the quality started to deteriorate with similar problems to the OP and I gave up on them about three years back.

Pro Race 4s for me now.
  • Thumbs up to Ribble who refunded straight away without question.

I've now replaced them with Panaracer Race D Evo 2's. Handsome tyres, they don't balloon quite as much as the Vred's on my wide rims. Let's hope the ride is as nice!
