Hi, can any of you kind Gents tell me the warranty period or how long you would expect a pro-lite garda rear wheel to last please ?

Comments

  • I'd have thought 2 years. That's what the warranty card for my Pro-Lites says. Most items in EC are in theory are supposed to carry a 2 year warranty / guarantee. You give no clues to the issue. Have you spoken to the retialer?

Generally speaking, most of the things that over time go wrong on a wheel are not covered by warranty, a few examples:

Bearings are not covered, rim wear is not covered and spoke/nipple failure is only covered over the first few months (6 I think), then considered tear and wear.

Things that are covered over the full period are manufacturing defects, like cracks leading to rim or hub failure.

However, warranty is one of those grey areas where depending how good you are at moaning and hassling you will get more or less in return

  • may 2014 i got the wheels, didnt use them for a few months as i was doing other stuff, used for a month in september, probably done not more than a thousand miles on them, i got 5 other bikes (mostly Dolans)so plenty of choice to ride, october to mid march this year ive been on a fixed wheel, so any way last week or so ive been riding the pro-lite garda wheels again, all smooth lanes and no potholes round here, 3rd time out this week, a spoke broke, i,m probably 30 odd miles from home so had to effect a roadside repair, tension on remaining spokes appeared tight and trueness was not affected, so i rode in a low gear, little ring, to avoid big lateral stresses on wheel, well within 10 miles the rear wheel is creaking and groaning hard to believe that now there are about 10 to 12 loose spokes on the non driven side of rear wheel.

i got home with a lift off a local farmer in his tractor...

so yesterday afternoon i contacted the retailer , they said in her email that basically its Tuff Luck, err aint that a bit hard to believe, so i,m thinking maybe it may be out of warranty, so last night i went to pro-lites website in taiwan and no its a 2 year warranty, so im hoping i may be in luck here. i got another 2 new pairs of pro lite wheels sat in the garage unopened, that i got from a different retailer. so you can see that without getting excited about it, i,m a bit chewed off that the wheel has failed so early in its life.

Built with too low tension, get them sorted by a shop, I bet in France they even know what they are doing...
Are you collecting wheels in the garage?

  • ive been in a few of the so called bike shops, one or two are ok, but most have been put out of biz due to the like of decathlons sell all junk at any price.
i,m mostly using mavic equipes, TBH best wheel ive used, last september i rode the raid pyrenean from west to east in 78hrs,on a compact and 30 lowest sprocket, and i needed it on one 17% section of the portet d'aspet a cheap ride if you plan it right.
the equipes have served me well, first pair i had, i wore the rims out, what now is virtually unheard of on factory wheels, (no doubt someone will be along shortly to say its common......)
on the winter fixie i ride halos, now theres a bullet proof wheel, been doing around 400 to 450 km a week all winter since december till mid march.

i had about 5 or 6 pairs of new wheels, but racking the miles up even on mavic and halos wears them out eventually. the pro lites i got spare, well have to see what happens with this one. before i decide to keep em or not.

Is this just free-ranting? There doesn't appear to be a connection with the thread...
You can't complain about Decathlon putting shops out of business and then buy a pair of wheels online, you're just playing the same game.
