Chain length

I am currently running Ultegra 6800 50/34 up front and a 12/27 (if I remember correctly) out back with a short cage derailler.
I am off to the Alps in June and have puechased a dinner plate sized 11/32 rear cassette with a new medium cage derailler. I have also treated the bike to a new chain which is currently 116 links long and not fitted.
Is there a trick to getting the chain length correct please.
Any assistance and advice would be very gratefully received.
Thanks in advance

Or Shimano's traditional advice for a double chainset:
Wrap the chain round the biggest chainring and biggest sprocket but not through the rear mech, then add a link (1 inch, ie inner plus outer)
Obviously then go back and thread it through the rear mech before joining it.
Then check that you can actually engage the bib-big combination without the upper jockey wheel hitting the cassette. Adjust the B screw if required.
And then try not to use this gear combination ever again!0 -
Done !
