Hello, I have a 2007 Rockhopper. I am very new to the whole "fixing your bike" thing and I believe I have a problem with the freehub on my bike. When I pedal the chain moves only the rear gears and does not drive the wheel... Basically the same thing happens when I pedal forward that would normally happen when I pedal backwards...

What do I need to do to fix this? It is an Alexrims RH 26 wheel, and the rear hub specs are Shimano FH-RM30L, cassette, 32h, QR (according to Specialized website)...Do I need to replace the hub only or the entire wheel and hub?

Not looking to spend over 100 dollars if possible, completely new to terminology but am a quick learner

Thanks in advance!

Kyle

Shimano free hubs are easily replaceable, you remove the axle and bearings and then the freehub, replace with a good one.

Just watched the following video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0ph4zIC3-Q

So the part I need is Shimano FH-RM30 8-Speed Freehub Body?

    Thanks!

Yes, you'll also need some cone spanners for removal/refitting.

note it's often cheaper to buy a new hub and strip the freehub from it than buy a freehub on its own

And you'll get a spare set of bearings, cups and cones....

I do have a Shimano freehub going spare though as I've just stripped down an M475 for spares.

The RM30 f/hub body is only about £12. You will also need a big 10mm hex key to get the old one off and new one on
