Are any special tools required to install a Sram Red BB into a a BB86 press fit frame? Does it need a bearing press?

I've never had much success tapping these bearings in with a soft mallet, so, ideally, yes. Either home-made or one of the many tools you can buy. A press is well worth it if you think you are going to do more than one.- - - - - - - - - -

You might not need a tool. I've just installed on of these and I just pushed it in by hand.0

And I definitely DID need the tool, for both the bearings and the cups (I was building up a new frame).0 -
