Hello,

I have a Scott Foil 30. I am trying to identify a creak which seems to emanate from the bottom bracket. The creak occurs occasionally under load.

Here is what I have done to identify the creak.

1). Changed the BB and crank. Not solved.
2). Removed seat post and regreased. Applied load on pedals unseated. Not solved.
3). Removed and regreased pedals. Not solved.
4). Removed wheel skewars and regreased. Not solved.

What else could he creak be please?

Thanks,

Daniel

Try greasing your bottle cage bolts. I had a similar creak that was driving me mad and this fixed it.

+1 for bottle cage bolts - i ended up putting rubber tap washers between cage and frame which eliminated creak . another common one is saddle - rails and sometimes even screws in saddle itself grease for first loctite for second .

Headset? You are probably applying forces through the headset as you apply power to the cranks. One test may be to try to generate the creak while on a turbo trainer and not touching the handlebars.

    Around the chainring bolts?

The edge of the chainrings rather then the inside of the bolts.

    This guide is pretty comprehensive:

I had a similar creak and was sure it was BB - turned out to be saddle rails.

Identified by only hearing the noise under load whilst seated so in hindsight pretty obvious but it really sounded and felt like the BB area

    Could be my knees, definitely!

check the rear drop-outs, if they are replaceable make sure the bolts are tight. Also make sure its not the front or rear wheel creaking in the dropouts, clean the faces of the dropouts and wheel cone-nuts and QRs.
I would also agree it could be the headset...make sure there is sufficient space to tighten the stem cap without fouling the top of the fork column.

Remove handlebar face plate and lightly grease bars.
