Hey all just in need of some advice before I buy.

I have a Planet X rt57 frame which is bb30. The crank I have at the moment is a shimano rs500.. Here's a link to the bb. It came off my domane which I crashed,.

I just need to know which bottom bracket I need.

Thank you

You either need a (new) BB30 crankset, or an adaptor sleeve for the Shimano..

Are bearings installed in the Planet X frame ? If yes, you can use these adapters that slide into the bearings by hand. http://www.wiggle.co.uk/wheels-manufact ... dle-shims/

    or these for £9.99
    http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/BBFSAPF30R ... -aluminium

If no, then you have 2 options

    1. Fit BB30 bearings (6806 2RS 42x30x7mm) into the frame with a press tool and then use the adapters above. You will need two BB30 circlips to fit behind the bearings before install. These http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/BBFSMW142/ ... %28pair%29

    or

    2. Buy a conversion kit like this http://www.wiggle.co.uk/fsa-bb30-conversion-kit/ and use Shimano HT2 outboard bearings. or buy something like the Praxis Works converter.

If you need a press tool i can sell you a homemade one for £5 posted or you can make one yourself. All you need is a threaded bar, washers and nuts.

Thanks a lot for your help trailflow and imposter.

I've just ordered the bits from Planet X and found a press tool at work. I had an idea of what I needed but just wanted to make sure first.

    Cheers buddy much appreciated :)

Don't order the FSA sleeves if you haven't already! I could not get the bearings pre-loaded properly with them on my Felt F1, enough to stop play = binding cranks. Back off = play.
    Wheels' worked first time ;)

What cranks? I cant seen how the FSA sleeve had anything to do with your problem. The sleeve mimics a regular threaded BB shell, so blaming it is wrong in this case.

Ultegra 6800 - I was even advised by saddleback not to use them - they'd had the same issue. So blame the Argos-shimano mechanics (at the time).
But what do I know :(

I have been doing some more reading into this and I was reading on Weight Weanies about it and it appears that you are correct, the FSA sleeve cannot be used on the F1 frame as the BB shell is carbon. Felt have opted to use the alloy BB30 shell on the new 2015 F1 so adaptors like the FSA sleeves or the Praxis expanding/collet reducers can be used.

I have a 2011 Felt F5 and the sleeve works well. I upgraded the GS to 6800 and have no desire to go back to BB30 so the threaded sleeve was the option that best suited my needs. I have to forfeit a small weight penalty but I am happier running the shimano BB with my 6800 crankset.

I did also consider the Wheels Manufacturing spacers and I'm sure they would have done the job just as well but using the MF spacers means the original bearings are still in place and I have had problems with them creaking in the past and so wanted rid of them completely.
