SPD Release Tension

I have two pairs of SPD pedals - XT (which I use on my road bike) and M520 (on MTB) - both purchased this year, so not very old.
The M520 have a nice easy release, however, the XT (even with the tension on the lowest setting) require quite a twist to release.
Is there anything I can do to the XT pedals to try and make them release a little easier - anything I should check on them? I guess all Shimano pedals would have roughly the same release tension :?:

I've always found the range in various versions.
perhaps swap them. tighter would be better on the road over off road.0 -
Different, but not lighter action. M520s could go as low as my M970s0

I gave the xts a quick spray of gt85 on the springs yesterday, and tightened them right up, then backed right off.
Going out for a ride shortly, so will see if it has made any difference.0 -
My XT's are tighter than my M520's, both well used and kept lubed.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

After spraying the springs with GT85 yesterday, they "seem" to be a little easier on the release tension. It's good to know I am not the only one who has noticed it though, as I was worried I had a bad pair - all seems ok though. Thanks for the input0

GT85 won't last long, I use a drop of wet chain lube on each pivot then clip in and out a few times before wiping off the excess,Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0
