Quick Di2 Question

Evening all,
Just a a quick question, I have bought myself a nice shiny new Di2 6870 with the internal battery and wiring.
On searching for install tips i have just read (dangers of the internet), that you can damage your derailleurs if they are shifted when not cycling (so against a stationary chain I guess?)
Is this true? If so can you power off the system ? Just worried that If left in the bike rack at work it might get fiddled with.... :x

what about putting something over the lever/shift buttons so they cannot be pressed ? or more extreme a bike cover ?0

I'm not sure if there's any truth in that, as in order to see the battery level on the junction box you press and hold the front shift lever to activate the battery light.0

The front derailleur especially is very powerful and could theoretically damage the chain I suspect if done too often.0

Using the front mech without pedalling can't damage the chain, as it can't move a far enough total distance sideways to achieve this. The rear mech moves over a far greater distance, which is why damage can be caused by trying to shift multiple gears with the bike not being pedalled.0 -
Thanks all, I think I am going to have to hope for the best. I guess that's the advantage of the external battery!0

If you are worried why not just unplug the wire at the junction box on the handlebar?0

But don't ride off forgetting to re-attach it 8)0 -
I have Di2 with external battery. I have not heard this at all, and I am quite sure there have been a number of "false" activations over the period I have had it, with absolutely no damage whatsoever..is it April 1st??0

Not sure about the older generation Di2 connectors, but the newer e-tube connections are not designed to be repeatedly unplugged and plugged back in again. They are designed to be sealed against the elements and regularly unplugging them, will affect the sealing.0 -
You may be right about the repeated plugging in and out. It was suggested as a tip to me when putting the bike in a car boot or bike box to avoid constant pressure on the switch draining the battery0
