Long time lurker in need of some assistance - have had a read through most recent topics and struggling to decipher the best option

Currently have a 2013 Specalized Allez Sport (Shimano 9spd Sora) - my first road bike and love it, unfortunately the freehub appears to be made of potato and has given up the ghost, in my mind I see the only logical option is to buy a new wheelset to solve this, unfortunately I don't know which

Am looking to spend under £200 and ideally could do with some new tyres at the same time.

I'm quite weighty at 95kg so I know this may affect my options but i've been looking at:
Campagnolo Vento Asymmetric G3 Wheelset
Fulcrum Racing 5 wheel set Modell 2015
Mavic Aksium One Clincher Wheelset

Basically I'm completely lost and looking for a little help!

Thanks in advance

I weigh 105KG and have Mavic Aksiums on my Dolan, and they are OK. With the campag, you need to ensure it comes with the Shimnao freehub, as the campag/shimano fittings are different.
My wife has the Fulcrums Racing 7s, and he Mvics are better than them (IMO), but I have no expereince of the 5s.

Ah, i'm in the same boat! Posted a very similar thread in the wrong section. 9spd shimano. :)Ideally around £150. PlanetX is a possible to throw into the list.

I'll keep an eye on this thread :)

  • The new Fulcrum Racing 5 LGs are wide rim (comfy!), so may well be worth looking at if you can find them under budget.

Merlin Cycles or a couple of the German sites look to be your best bet for those.

I have the same bike and put Askium One's on on Friday from my LBS, then rode 80 miles on saturday. They're excellent. The ride feels very smooth whenever I hit some nice Tarmac but didn't mind being thrown down some pretty dodgy country lanes. They have some Elites in the tyre tube bundle at the moment which are within your price range. I was swayed because the guys in Panagua said that they're easy to get a hold of spares for repairs/replacements if I need it, whereas the Fulcrum they said can be more of an issue.

I 100% will recommend these guys.

The Fulcrum Racing 5s can be had for under £150 from Germany, which would give you plenty of budget left over for tyres.

    Better seals on the hubs.

I am sure I saw one of our resident wheel experts post about this the other day on here. They said that the CX has better seals on the BEARINGS but the hub is the same and the bearings get swapped when you have ridden it a while anyway, so if the CX are more expensive then dont bother. If you search you may find this post.

I remembered that too. Yesterday I think. 2RS bearings in the CX variants apparently. How many cents do they save in fitting the single sealed bearings in the non CX version?? Or is it the 0.25 grams they shave off the weight?

I'm not sure the non CX version is any cheaper from Germany.

Can't recommend the Fulcrum 5's enough, light weight, run smooth and very quiet on the road. Not had much flex out the saddle either. I got mine second hand with little use for £110. Worth a look

Not at 95kg. As said on many other threads - they'll hold us for a while and then when the first spoke goes you're well and truly fucked.

I think if you click the little union flag in the top right corner it instantly helps you to understand German!

has nayone used this site before? is it legit? I'm a little bit cautious on using foreign sites (not in a ukip way, just worried about getting scammed).

    oh FFS!!!

Placed an order, paid by PayPal. My work address was showing for the delivery address, which is fine. Submit. The confirmation shows the correct address, but with the number and street missing! 10th Floor, W2 postcode, Paddington, UK

Anyway, i have emailed them with the full address and asked them to confirm that they will deliver to the correct address.
