Choose me a bike??

Not really a serious post as such but I simply can't get my head around the number of people who ask what bike they should buy for two, three, four grand.
Do people really have that little confidence in their own decision making and that much faith in another person's opinion to let someone else basically choose them a bike?
Just makes me wonder if the buyer actually appreciates what they are buying if they don't really know what they want.
Not a dig at all. Just an observation.

people have many different motivations for such a post and the way they are debated the forum certainly seems to have an appetite for it.

    Some reasons include:-
If you're spending a lot of money on something then you want confirmation of your own world view
If you are at an early stage, some views may help to narrow your research area
If you have done a lot of research you may want to know you haven't missed a possible contender
Much excitement about getting a new bike and wanting the world to know
Taking a big step up in price / range and being overwhelmed by all the choices

All of these and more are valid reasons for asking, it doesn't mean a random stranger on the Internet will make the choice for you!

I don't disagree with the sentiment but complaining about (sorry, "observing") people asking for bike buying advice in a forum called "buying advice" seems a bit unfair.

  • I think that these days, with the internet, it is very easy when looking to buy anything to get blinkered into one train of thought. Or simply be overwhelmed by all the different options.

Someone else may have had a very similar "problem" and come across a very different "solution."

I've never seen anyone really asking for others to choose them a bike.

Generally people ask for advice on specific aspects. Which is more comfortable/which has better wheels/mudguard clearance :p.

You obviously don't know what you really want.

To date, all Foil frames have either been mechanical or Di2 and not interchangeble. I can't see them retooling for a frame that is in it's final year of production. FWIW, my 2013 Team Issue is Di2.
