Black gear cables?

Got one of those XTR cable and housing sets and it has 2 black cables. Never seen black cables before! Whats the deal with them, are they better for not stretching or something?

    They're coated to reduce friction. Typically teflon. Though you can also get clear teflon coated cables.

    Gear cables don't really stretch.

    Some tandem ones are sold as "pre-stretched" but maybe its marketing.

    All wire stretches (ask a guitarist). But once stretched, doesn't stretch anymore.
