What tyre to choose?

Hi all, I am taking part in L'eroica Brittania later this year and wanted to ask a question.
Do you think I will be okay to use Veloflex Masters which fit with the look of the period bike, or should I go for a more puncture proof "modern" tyre? I really want the Veloflex, but having never run them before I'm not sure if they will stand up to the Monsal Trail etc, my LBS said that I'd better take "several tubes" when he heard I was taking part!

A box of bits that will make a fine Harry Hall when I get round to it.

Are you referring to tubs or clincher tyres?

Veloflex do have puncture protection. They're only fault is that they wear quicker than other tyres. As you only want them for a day then I'd go with them - they'll look the part and ride beautifully.

They should be 20c to be right /proper retro for the period

Pasela would be more sensible but less retro bling though.

Depends which period... before the tiny period there was the fat period... 32 or so

Wouldn't the wider tyres be from the 27" 1 1/4 wheel size time? (for the UK anyway) or at least before they used clinchers so it would it be 700c tubulars?

Basically im wondering when did 700c clincher tyres first appear?

    EDIT:

    First clincher rim?
