12-30 cassette

If you're using the existing 28 a lot and can't keep the cadence going, then yes you will benefit from the 30. Running out of gears is not nice.0

I currently have a Campag setup running a 12-27 cassette with a 50-34 chainset and everything works fine using a short cage rear mech. Am interested in the 12-30 cassette for tougher climbs but wondered whether I could still use a short cage rear mech.0

A Shimano short-cage accomodates a 30T, but you would need to check with Camag.
EDIT: See caveats below0 -
12-30 is also useful if you are having a bad day and everything seems hard work or you just want to take it very easy.0

I did exactly the same for a trip abroad last October and having that extra gear did make the difference on longer climbs where you just want to spin it out.Advocate of disc brakes.0

Thanks.
What rear derailleur do you have? viewtopic.php?f=40004&t=12958217&p=18736529#p187365290 -
My bike came with 12-30 but I tried 11-28 for a while and on the tougher long climbs in the Pennines I was longing for something lower - added to the fact I never used the 11T I've gone back to 12-30 now and I'm going to stick with that!0

And depending on rear dropouts a 32 - which is emphatically I'm running (with 48/36) on my Genesis Equilibrium and a 105SS rear mech.0
