Hi,
so the boys Sram x3 rear mech is now like this
http://www.dropviewer.com/g/2618
No crash, suspect other stuff lent against it in garage.
To me it looks like I just need a new derailleur. Hanger looks ok, no?
Any knowledge on this received with thanks.

Take it to a bike shop - they'll sort it for a tenner at most. Or you could just buy a mech alignment tool and do it yourself.

Ta. Never knew that that existed as a tool.0

Yeah I've just bought one myself - a badly behaving 9 speed road bike has been nicely tuned at last :-). It'll pay for itself when I sort out my MTB (stone bashed mech - similar to your photo)0

That tool is to align hangers, not straighten mechs.
And a shop won't straighten a bent mech - it's replacement time. An X3 probably isn't even worth £10.I don't do smileys.

Hanger looks fine, if that's a Merida frame I've found the hangers quite robust.
As it's a cheap and cheerful mech, I'd be inclined to see if it will bend back out, nothing ventured nothing gained!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
Will try and bend it out. If not, replace.0
