Hi,
I just bought a 29er in the sale and the bike came with Thunder Burts which I hadnt heard much about.
I am wondering if anyone has any experience with these tyres and how well they run in dry conditions on the trail.
My thoughts were that I would run the Thunder burt on the rear and a more all round tyre on the front. It would be interesting to find out what people run on their 29er??

They're a very fast racey tyre. Good in the dry, but not good if it's remotely wet. Very little central tread, but they do retain something on the shoulders. Very light and fragile too.
I'd be interested in them if you wanted to sell?
I use Rocket Rons as my all round tyre, although I put Maxxis Beavers on for winter and have been very impressed with them.0 -

I have just fitted a Maxxis Beaver EXO tubeless to the rear and find it slow rolling but great grip. I ride mainly trail centre 40-50km spins also good bit of rocks. I have a rocket Ron on the front, Had one of these on the rear previously but did not last long. Of all tyres I find the Continental Race Kings (black chilli) very fast rolling but side walls wear quickly. My mavic cross rides have over 3000km therefore they be affecting rolling
Are you running the Beavers on front and rear?0 -
Yep, both ends. Weird to put the knobblier and slower tyre on the back. Far more use on the front, and the rolling resistance isn't as noticeable.
I do find the Beavers slower, but they're not a bad weight - less than my 2.25" Rons - and bags of grip. Would change them pretty sharpish when it dried out, but don't find them a hindrance whilst it's wet.
Dunno what you mean about your wheels. How will that affect anything?0 -

Put it on the back to see would I get longer life.
The rear wheel has slight buckle but not too bad and bearings probably not as free rotating as when new.0 -
They either are or aren't. If the bearings need doing then change them. :?
Pointless putting a slower, more aggressive tyre on the back - it'll wear faster than on the front, whilst giving you less benefit.0
