Wheel/Rim Upgrade help

I bought a Norco Sight Alloy 7 1.5 650B 2014 Mountain Bike this year. I'm still running the factory wheelset - Shimano SLX Hubs with Sun Inferno Rims. But, I'm wanting to upgrade the wheels and make them stronger for all mountain riding.

Would I be able to just buy stronger rims and get my LBS to rebuild my wheels without spending a shed load? Or, would I be better buying a completely new wheelset?

Any help is appreciated and advice on which 27.5 rims can take a beating...!

Thanks,

Nick

As you'd be buying new spokes, nipples and rims for the sake of buying a pair of hubs versus being left with some rims barely worth anything, it would be silly not to just get some new wheels and being able to sell your current ones.
