The joy of waterproof socks...

So it was half term... cold and wet, but the forecast was for sun. Ideal conditions for a ride - especially if you are 12, you have a friend down the road who has the same attitude to riding as you do, and you both have waterproof socks.

The brief for the ride was 'mud and puddles, please' and I must say it was great fun... I can't say I'd really considered 'sessioning' deep mud and deeper puddles, but my brief as guide was to find the good stuff. At some point I guess I'll be regreasing hubs, but what a great day.

They are definitely up for a replay. We've done that route before, but never in the middle of winter... without the warm kit this would have been a bit risky, as cold and wet kids go from having fun to being miserable pretty quickly. I'm now looking at sorting this out as an option for a school mountain biking trip, and I think 'keeping warm and dry' will have to be first in my risk assessment.

We did a repeat run at the weekend... and this route is definitely first choice for our next club ride. Parents will need a 'mud warning' though - maybe I will add a 'risk' of muddy seats and footwells post-ride!
