Canyon Ultimate or Endurance

Firstly apologies if this is an already exhausted question but I'm really torn between the Ultimate CF SL and the Endurance. This is a real treat so I really don't want to get it wrong. The geometry doesn't seem to be that different but obviously different enough for Canyon add the Endurance. Also does anyone know if you can swap the frame colours & specs? (I prefer the Ultimate 8.0 colours but want Ultegra) Do I wait for the Endurance or go for the Ultimate which is available now?

Thanks.

I'd suggest you base your decision entirely on the geometry unless you're a beginner in which case you might not be sure what geometry you want/need.
The Endurace is more upright with both a shorter reach and a higher stack for each size as compared with the Ultimate. It's not extreme in this like some brands. I think the Specialised Roubaix for example is much more upright than the Endurace. If you already have a bike and you're happy with your position or know how you want to alter it, I'd compare to the two bikes and see which gets you what you want. Decision made!

I'm pretty sure Canyon won't accommodate mixing and matching. You can swap out conmponents like stem, seatpost, cassette range, chainring sizes but otherwise it's a fixed package. You can always enquire in case I'm wrong about that!
  • Thanks,

A relative newbie, currently have a Whyte RD7 which I used for a 1500 mile cycle ride across Europe last year but I know I'd like something lighter and faster. I'm sure I'll be happy with either and both will achieve what I want.
  • Myself and Ai_1 both have the an Ultimate SL 9.0 which we could both wax lyrical about for hours if needed, obviously both bikes are designed differently, the Ultimate more racy, the Endurace slightly more relaxed. But one thing I would say is that I've done 100 miles rides on my Ultimate and never suffered any discomfort issues.

Which models were you considering, either purchase will leave you very happy imo.
  • Having looked at the geometry of other bikes (Specialised Tarmac & Focus Cayo bikes friends rode LEJOG on) and the Ultimate looks similar so think I will go for that. Now just to decide whether I can stretch the budget up to the SLX?! Funny how quickly we can find that extra money when we REALLY need it!

    Thanks

I LOVE the look and prices of the Canyon range, really do, but having experienced first hand how easy it is to buy something with a totally wrong geometry for me, (buying 2nd hand), I just wouldnt do it unless I could try before.
    I'll stick with my Roubaix.

I had the same question (Ultimate or Endurace). Went to Koblenz store (sorry but I live near Frankfurt so it was easy for me) and tried both rides. To me Endurace was good but Ultimate was much racier - took only a few metres to feel it. Ultimate was certainly comfortable too so it was an easy decision. Came away having ordered the Ultimate.
By the way - super service at the shop too.
    looking into the +1
  • I guess it's like reading all the horoscopes until you find the one you want to hear. Ultimate it is! Now just to decide on whether I go for the CF SL or the SLX?!

    Thanks for your help everyone.

Yeah, that's pretty much how I looked at it and went for the SL. Never regretted it.

Remember the SL has Ksyrium Elite S wheels, whereas the comparable SLX has Ksyrium SLR's - that's a £450 wheelset vs an £1100 one.

the base ultegra SLX? thats actually a fair deal then really as 600 quid difference for wheels alone!

Yep, the price difference is only half in the frame. If the better wheels are worth it to you then the SLX may be worth it. For me the wheels weren't a big enough factor
  • What I haven't got my head around yet is the price to the UK is the same as it was last year on most models, yet the exchange rate has gone from 1.22 euros to 1.35 euros to the pound.

I had a quick look at a model I liked which was £2600 delivered to the UK, yet if I had it delivered in Europe and worked the exchange rate back, it was £2100....

Now I think I need to call my Dutch pepper grower!!

Edit...I thought, ah maybe VAT, but then most EU countries also have VAT....so must be the import duties??
