Anyone can recommend a good LOOK dealer, preferably northern part of the country?

I'm seriously looking at the 795 range or last years 675 but as they're a hefty chunk of cash I want to have a good look at them first, ride one etc, anyone got any recommendations?

Cheers :)

Funnily enough that's the main one I've been looking at online, they seem to have some nice upgrades available on these models but 4 1/2hrs away from me

    Have you used them yourself?

  • Primera Sports in Dorset. Miles away from you but I bought an Argon 18 from them and have just ordered a custom build from them now. Seriously good shop and really are interested in the customer. I honestly can't recommend them enough. There are two stores and the one I use is in Bournemouth. The other is in Poole. They do mail order too and will happily talk stuff through via phone an email.
  • Can vouch for Epic. Bought Cannondale though not Look.
Great service and really good to deal with.
There Upgrades options are always tempting !!!
Test rides also available. I took time off work to go and visit and was well worth it...
  • Asks for the North and gets the South.

If you can jump on a train to Edinburgh (is it not 3 stops from Durham?) Ronde are a Look dealer. Really good shop too http://rondebike.com/

    +1

I had myself a great little holiday in Ludlow when visiting Epic cycles.

I went there to buy a 695 from them a couple of years ago but they decided they wouldn't honour their price match as the other people charged less than them. Kind of thought that was the point of price matching but there you go...

I bought my Look from Epic - I'm in Leeds so not quite as far but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them even at that distance. For this sort of bike, I think the purchasing experience is worth a lot (especially being able to ride test bikes built up to fit you so you are riding something close to what you are buying - I covered 45 test miles on my visit!).

  • Try giving Palace Cycles in Carlisle a bell, pretty sure they sell the 795 and a couple of other Look bikes. Their website is rubbish but they are a decent shop.

Edit - Sorry, it's actually the 675 they keep.

I think MTS Cyclesport do Look frames. Also, they're located on Gilesgate, Durham! See what I did there?

My only word of caution is that if there are any problems/you need to use the warranty then you will end up dealing with the UK distributor, Fisher Outdoor, who are awful! Imperfect paint job on my 675 light, they agreed a full respray after the Summer months. Took it in October, only just got it back. Was sitting in their warehouse for two months doing nothing and now it's back it hasn't even been resprayed! They're blaming "translation issues" with the French factory.

Look bikes are beautiful and I bought mine from Cat1 cycling in Rugby. Sometimes the shop can be amazing but their hands are tied by the ineptitude of the distributor!

They indeed have a lovely 675 and looking to sell it off at a discount.

They also had a nice 695 Aerolight. Not any more!

Well so far I've made a few email enquires with Epic cycles and they appear very professional in their approach, surprised at how good their standard prices are too!

The 4hr journey may just be worth it, hoping to pop down next month to see them :)

Do any of you chaps out there ride either of these?

What's your thoughts on how they ride and handle?

I'm looking at the Aerolight with the standard Mavic CC SLS but then also considering the Light with an upgrade to the Mavic CC SLS wheel set.

Am I right in thinking these will be exactly the same bikes bar the Aero brakes?

I don't have a LOOK specialist near me to speak of and will have to travel some distance to buy the bike and I'm wondering about when it comes to service time, would I benefit more from having the standard Dura Ace brakes?

    Look forward to your comments

    Cheers :)

  • You're only an hour from York cycleworks!
I bought my 695 Aerolight from them at Christmas.
They have a medium 675 on sale at the moment.
As far as I know, the 795 and Aerolight version bikes are identical bar the brakes.

I've not really spent enough time on mine to be able to give an accurate view on the ride (waiting for spring).
They set up the brakes for me. The front ones were apparently very fiddly to get right. Their integration does look pretty neat though.

I know it is heresy, but am not using the Mavic SLE wheelset. I will be selling the wheels on at some point (when I can get round to photographing and listing them) - unused unridden. If you wanted to "upgrade" the wheelset then drop me a line.

Thanks for that but I'll stick with the SLS, prefer the alloy braking surface rather than the full Carbon. Yeah I'd seen the medium at Yorkcycles but I'll need a large and I prefer the colour schemes on the 795.

I've emailed Yorkcycles and haven't heard back yet and have established a lengthy dialogue with Epic over the course of two days, speaks volumes IMO ;)

& some cheap Mavic wheels but for only £3500 ! That seems very cheap to me.

Whilst having no opinion on the Look, I can highly recommend Epic.
Condor Super Acciaio, Record, Deda, Pacentis.
Curtis 853 Handbuilt MTB, XTR, DT Swiss and lots of Hope.
Genesis Datum Gravel Bike, Pacentis (again).
    Genesis Equilibrium Disc, 105 & H-Plus-Son.
