Best Sat Nav / GPS for road cycling

any thoughts, best system for stopping me getting lost ?

    Garmin 800/810/1000 depending on budget and required features.

    iphone has helped me out on several occasions when Garmin decided to play games.

    Etrex has better battery life.

    There's lots of options for what you want, got any other requirements / a budget?

    i would like to upload or design my own routes, other than that the basics, big screen, waterproof etc etc

    You can do that with the eTrex and the cycling specific devices.

    You can design your own routes with www.ridewithgps.com or Garmin Connect. Uploading the Courses to a gps is easy.

    The best unit is the Garmin 1000. The screen is in a different class, but you can expect to pay £385 for one with maps and a full set of non magnetic sensors.
