Hi Guys can someone advise me, is there an alternative bottom bracket other than the FSA Bottom brackets

Mine Is due for replacement soon the FSA IS BB 8681 if I am correct. Has anyone used another make on this chainset FSA SLK LIGHT HOLLOW CARBON or you are stuck with FSA Version ?

thanks in-advance

What version is the SLK ? BB386evo or BB30?
    Both use press fit bearings.
  • Hi its not the BB386 OR BB30 ITS THE NORMAL BSA THREAD VERSION 0.24 its the SLK LIGHT before the evo386 come into stock I purchased it in 2012 as part of a bike build from Planet X.

A new BB FSA you can get for under £30.. any reason for wanting another make?
  • I think its this one is needed BB 8681 are you referring to this one JGSI

Was thinking if the hollowtec 2 might fit Shimano version .
  • Think SRAM & Shimano do not fit.
I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles

    This nice chart:

I'd just stick with FSA in this regard.

I've used HTII BBs on FSA Mega Exo Gossamer chainsets (not a swanky carbon jobbie tho').

If the crankshaft diameter is 24mm then in your shoes I'd probably give it a go...but I've got one in the shed I can try so it would cost me nothing.

Alternatively you could tap out the bearings from the cups and replace them...gives you the opportunity to put them back together with a bit more care than in the FSA factory. A smear of silicone grease on the dust cap seal interfaces and so on makes a big difference.

How is your SLK Light assembled, specifically the bearing load ?

I have SLK, where basically it's a bolt through from one crank to the other, the bearing load is set by the presence of the aluminium tube which fits in the BB shell between the two cups : no matter the precise width of the BB shell, how far/tight you screw-in the BB cups, how tight you (over !) tighten that bolt which holds the two cranks together, the bearing load is correct because of the alu tube.

Shimano doesn't work that way, doesn't have the alu tube.

From memory, my SLK or K-Force uses a FSA 8000 megaexo BB, Gossamer uses 6000, your SLK-Light uses 8200 : I think Gossamer can use my 8000, but you have to use your specified correct one.

If your bearings themselves have gone, then as Des says, yes it's a simple matter to pop off the seals with a knife blade or something, bang-out the bearings themselves and buy some from a bearing factor (eg simplybearings.co.uk)

SLK Mega Exo uses a narrower bearing - if you run a HT2 you'll overload the bearings and they'll wear-out
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
  • Thanks guys got the right one today from ebay £19.00!!! new link here
