Shoes for Cyclists With Big Feet.

Hi Guys,
I am not aware of any such topic on the web but i feel that this is an issue which many tall cyclists face.
It is a massive Pain in the a** to fine shoes that fit riders with large feet, not width wise, I'm talking length wise.
Being a size 12/13 in shoes means that many brands will not cater for me, I had to sell a pair of my Fizik R3 shoes that were too small even though they were a 12.
I mean I wanted a pair of Giro Empire ACC shoes but from what I hear, the largest size they do will not cater for me, which begs the question: "what shoe size is Taylor Phinney if he's 6'6"?"
So although this is brief I simply would like to ask people to lend their advice as to shoe brands that cater for larger feet but are of a high performance quality. I am aware of Bonts and I am soon planning on the purchase of a pair of Vaypors although I feel it would be beneficial to any other internet users to come here for some advice on the best brands for our large flippers.
Fire away!

Good question to which I have a mediocre answer.
Sidi make great shoes, their sizing chart goes up to size 50 however, retailers do not appear to run beyond 48, which I suspect would be too small for you.
Unless someone out there has a better solution, I would be inclined to try one of the larger specialist cycle shops eg Condor Cycles or Sigma Sport, possibly Cycle Surgery on the off chance they have some in their warehouse, and ask if they can get some shoes in for you to try. Alternatively perhaps give Sidi Cafe a call next week and ask them what service is available.
I picked out Sidi as they sell normal width and 'mega' width shoes in their ranges.
Good luck!

I feel your pain, I'm also somewhere around 12/13 depending on the shoe. I haven't tried to find new shoes for about 3 years (I settled on some size 49 Specialized Elite Touring shoes, which are SPD) but I remember Shimano doing some wide fitting SPD-SL shoes in 49/50 when I was looking, they were ok size wise, but there was something about them that I didn't find comfortable so I kept looking.
The next problem is finding overshoes, I must have tried so many different types that claimed to be XXXL etc. The only ones I've found that fit were Gore Windstopper Soft Shell overshoes size 48-50 but I have a friend who also has larg feet and wears Funkier Waterproof overshoes in XXXL.0 -
Wiggle have the Bonts in size 50 and have a good returns procedure;

Have you tried the bont size guide?
http://www.bont.com/Cycling/items/support/size.html
I found the guide pretty good but had to size up due to morton's toe and also had to opt for the wide version. The path of my life is strewn with cowpats from the devil's own satanic herd.0 -
I am a size 13 shoe. I have been wearing Sidi cycle shoes for over 15 years. I buy size 50 and have never suffered any discomfort in my feet. Sidis are very expensive but I buy them for three reasons:
1. They are very comfortable
2. They last for a very long time
3. Because of their styling they are one of the few cycle shoes they don't make my feet look like I am wearing barges!___________________________________________

Thats really interesting to know because no store to my knowledge carries sidis in anything over a 48, would you care to share where you purchase them from and what model you wear?

To provide a response to the thread, i have had a pair of Bont Vaypors for the past 2-3 months and they have been great, but i feel like there may be a little too much room in them for me. the size is great length wise, but the shoe almost feels a bit too roomy so i may consider jumping across the Spesh S Works Roads or a pair of Sidis given the feedback i have had on those.
Cheers for the input here guys, helps a lot!

Yes, in fact Wiggle definitely don't have some Genius 5 in Black or White available at the minute in size 50... http://www.wiggle.co.uk/sidi-genius-5-f ... oad-shoes/0 -
I'm a UK 12 and have to pairs of Northwave size 47s and find they fit perfectly with just enough wiggle room for toes.
Pretty sure they do bigger sizes as well.0 -
Appropriate topic as I've decided my size 50 Diadoras are too big and am getting some new shoes. Size 13 generally and the Diadoras are ok in length but just too wide ( I've got barge feet!). Just been and tried few makes on and found Mavics to come up v small/ Shimano better a 48 was a fraction too small and, though didn't have any big enough to try on, the Lake foot measuring gizmo says I'm a 48.
If you're a regular width, size 13 and interested, I may put the diadoras in the classifieds soon.0 -
Ja this all sounds great feedback guys, really appreciate the help, although I feel a but more context should have been added to the initial post! Im looking at the high end seeing as I am a Cat 3 crit racer getting close to Cat 2, so I'm looking for a higher end shoe for closure, fit and stiffness but the issue i find is that the companies which offer such bike porn shoes go no larger than a EU480
