Bought the last 2 issues of C+ and the bikes in the BOTY just seem massively overpriced for what they are.
There's some 8.5kg to 9kg bikes for £2500 !
I've just wasted some lunch hour looking at Rose's website and you can get this for £1650
http://www.rosebikes.co.uk/bike/rose-x- ... aid:754024
It weighs 6.55kg ! (so they say).
It just doesn't stack up how much Trek, Giant et al are charging for so much less of a bike regardless of a dealer network.
That Rose has £500ish wheels, £650 worth of groupset and a sub 900gr frame
Do we need disc brakes that badly were willing to have a 2kg weight penalty ?
The seat angle is very steep in my size but all said if I was buying right now it'd have to be a Rose - they're making Canyon look expensive !

Anyone give a reason to buy a Giant or similar with discs over the Rose ?

There's a lot more to evaluating a bike than just weight. We all like to have a light bike but it's over simplifying to say weight should be inversely related to cost.
An aero bike with disc brakes is generally going to be considerably heavier than a non-aero rim brake bike of similar cost.
And that's still over simplifying it.

Having said that, I bought a Canyon in 2014 because they and Rose do appear to offer a lot more for your money.

I agree but its a great spec as well as an amazing weight and looks pretty neat in the stealth mode too.
Imo it'd have to ride like a dustbin for it not to be on my shortlist.
I've had loads of really good bikes with specs north of £3500 but just don't see how I could warrant spending more*.
I guess I'm just amazed at the value and perhaps just felt the need to point it out

  • It looks a fine bike ...

    I spent a bit more on a white, 11spd 105 equipped bike.
Not for everyone I appreciate. But I fell for it!

I was looking for stealthy with Ultegra .... Never mind :)
Still thinking of something clever to say!

The Rose is awesome value and I have a Canyon with similar spec.
  • I know someone who bought a Canyon and has been chasing them for a missing saddle piece for 18 months now.

They are no doubt good bikes but surely service has to come into the equation. Canyon doesn't really do customer service. Not sure about Rose but they are a rocks and mortar bike shop (in Germany at least).

    Price / weight isn't everything.

There's a lot of positive reports on Canyon service. My experience has been very good as has that of many others.
I had a problem with a seatpost, no quibble, they replaced it immediately. Bearing in mind that Canyon appear to now be selling large numbers of bikes and disproportionately, I suspect, to those present on internet sites, it's always likely you'll hear the occasional poor report (some valid, some perhaps not) regardless how good or bad their customer service actually is. I see no reason to think it's worse than other bike vendors.
I certainly wouldn't avoid Canyon based on customer service reports. If you want to buy from a local shop you can go back to in person with the bike should you have a problem that's a different matter.
