Good Coffee Shops/Bakeries in the Northwest

edited February 2015 in The cake stop
I have 10 days off work (Inc weekends) and plan on doing a 'from home' training camp. However I'd like somewhere to cycle towards and figured a coffee stop/some nice cake would be perfect.
Base is Manchester (Didsbury) and anything within a 50 mile range.
Northern Quarter has some nice places but I don't ride fixed (hipster central) and it's not exactly a challenge.
Or in fact anywhere I can pick up a good bag of the brown stuff would be fine as I need a good bean for my morning hit.

Jodrell Bank has a good cafe. Great place to ride to too.

The Greedy Pig in Kelsall is similar, ride through Delamere to get there. The owners are keen cyclists and coffee lovers. The cakes are great too. I think they sell coffee too.

Re Greedy Pig, shut Sundays as they go cycling.

Walk Mill, Waverton, top coffee, cake and bread/toast (they make their own flour etc)

I hear of good things about the Coffee Fix in Gatley should you be going out or coming back from the peaks

Courtyard Coffee house, Knutsford (tucked off King Street)

Not a fan of the Delamere cafes (especially not the station on)

  • Greedy pig and walk Mill definately on the list. I'd forgotten about Jodrell so maybe midway through the chesire way or whatever that route is called.

And that map is excellent thanks.

If heading north, Café Roma in Whitefield is good. Italian owned, great coffee and food as well as Italian cakes. If you are going further Pendle Heritage Centre at Barrowford nr. Colne has a good café. As to buying it? Booths at Media City has a good selection incl a grind your own nr. the door and a selection upstairs. Coffee is a whole other thread (or 20 tho'). You can of course cycle to Rapha in Mcr, read cycle mags, try the kit/coffee,buy the kit/coffee
