Winter gloves

Anyone fancy recommending some good winter gloves?

I've got a pair of gloves which are looking a bit worse for wear but function fine, as long as it's above 7 degrees. I.e. autumnal.

I currently put a loose pair of thinsulate gloves over the top, when it gets chilly. but it's not ideal. Get cramp in my hand after a while trying to squeeze the break.

FWIW I've got a rapha voucher burning a hole in my pocket too, but don't let that persuade you guys too much ;).

  • These Sealskinz are great. http://www.rutlandcycling.com/280764/pr ... -grey.aspx

A steal at 19 quid. They size up a bit small though.

  • It depends on the individual? Personally I don't bother with anything special, texting gloves from Wilkos - two layers. Good for 2C and above. I try to avoid outside below 5C so that works ok.

Prendas Cyclismo wooly gloves if its not too cold.
Aldi £5 gloves if its colder than that.
Aldi Golf mittens if its sub zero.

Second the campag steam. Not good if its an absolute deluge though as they can absorb a lot of water

I have the Campag ones - probably Steam. They are good, but not down to zero. At zero or below I have been wearing Prendas lightweight gloves (the Defeet ones I think) underneath - still a bit chilly on the colder days but borderline OK. I have some lobsters that I haven't got out yet - not sure whether to wear over the Prendas or the Campag (or both!) - might have to try one on one hand, Campag on the other hand to determine whether they are actually warmer, or just an alternative as an extra layer.
  • Sportful Windstopper Arctic Glove have done me well this winter: I've been doing 40-minute commutes, pretty much every weekday, but not much proper riding.
Might need a thin merino / silk inner for a longer ride sub-5 degrees.
    V pleased with them though.
  • I’ve had a nightmare finding new winter gloves this year.

Rapha – just not working for me (shock!) but they might work for you.
Castelli Estremo – the velcro was nonsense and was going to screw up the fabric on the backs of the fingers plus the small was too big for me!
    Assos – not happening either.

So I’ve been wearing liners, Louis Garneau Course Attack mid-season gloves and my Defeets over the top. That was until I popped by Aldi the other weekend…£1.99 and I’m sorted. Well I never :lol::lol:

Depends how you get on with neoprene (I know some people dislike the clammy feel once your hands warm up), but I've found a pair of Decathlon's 2mm neoprene gloves has been enough to get me through the worst this winter has thrown at us.
  • I use seal skinz which I find very good but if I struggled like some of you guys I'd have no hesitation in wearing these which I use for motorbiking.
On the m/bike I have the wires up my sleeves to a small battery pack but I suppose you could either do that or tidy the wires and mount them with the battery on the frame in a tri bag?
They generate a constant heat and are easy to unplug.

Shop around and you'll find them cheaper and they size up very small plus the link just shows the gloves so you'll also need a battery pack. I think they have two different packs.

    Cheers Stuart

I use assos early winters with their lobsters, but when really cold and wet I use these. I got them from a friend in Denmark. Hands do sweat a bit but when temperature hits below -5c hands were toasty!

  • I use these http://goo.gl/aruFPs under full finger Giro MTB glover and they work great. Keeps your hands warm and allows good range of motion.

Leisure Lakes sold me a pair of Endura Strike Waterproof gloves. I really feel the cold and so far they've done the job, even on a 7 hour ride in near freezing conditions. Feet were a different story!

I would always go to a shop to try gloves for fit, my online glove buying experiences have been universally poor. the shop will be able to tell you which ones are selling well, which is a good measure of what people are telling their mates.
