building a carbon front wheel...
I have built about 8 sets of archetypes and a couple of sets of tb14s up for friends and family. none have fallen apart yet and seem to be holding true.
I want to build up a cheap front carbon wheel for doing some tts over the summer
I have seen these on planet-x
http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/RISESPT/selcof-speed-t-rim
http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/HUSEFRONT/ ... -front-hub
which would build up to something that I can live with price wise once tubular tyres have been factored in.
do any of the esteemed wheel builders have any tips for building up a carbon wheel?

Older PX carbon tubular rims were drilled for internal nipples, don't know about these ones. Building with internal nipples requires you to learn new tricks, so could be a challenge... if they are drilled for externals, then it is a straightforward build. You need to use a tension meterleft the forum March 20230

I have a tension meter (the cheapy park tools one)
from this pic it seems that they may have internal nipples?0 -
They surely do... have fun...left the forum March 20230

seeing as they are tubular I will give them a miss.
having to unglue a wheel to true it up doesnt sound like something worth doing...0 -

Agree, however, if you build it well and don't crash it, a front wheel is unlikely to ever need truingleft the forum March 20230 -
Cheers buddy for that I think I will give them a miss

have you any experience of these rims?
sorry to pester you about this stuff!0 -

I built up a pair of carbon rims from light-bicycle for a friend last year. They seemed well made to me, easy to build up true, in fact, just as easy to build as an Archetype IME.

If a rear wheel is built well it should never need truing too. Internal nipples are a silly idea anyway best avoided as all they give is extra hassle.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0

I have ordered one of the dymag rims in the 24 hole config.
I have a tune hub that is sitting around and is 24 hole.
I was thinking 1 cross is there any obvious reason not to lace this way?0 -

Is that because Tune don't want you to lace radial?left the forum March 20230 -
tune rate the 16-28 hole mig hubs as being suitable for radial...
but going by the spoke markings on the flanges it was laced 1 cross. I thought that it might be better to do the same lacing pattern as it might be less likely to fail?0 -

I have no evidence of that.left the forum March 20230 -
Sheldon brown says you should replace a hub the way it was the first time but I don't think it's important why would it fail. I think it is more a rule based on coincidence rather than correlation of a good sample set.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0

ok cheers guys. will lace it radial then...0
