We spent two weeks in August in Port Soller last year, absolutley loved it, great location, good bike shop at Traumantana (?) tours, they will take you through the tunnel in a van if you plan this with them, then the flat interior is a day break from the hills. they do good bike hire and are very helpful.

The ride to the south to Deia and onto Valldemossa and looping back round is splendid, the climb out of Port De Soler that way is probably the easiest and is spectacular, riding along the edge of the island looking out to sea, ah great memories.

The ride up and over the Soller mountain, cannot remember its proper name, is quite long but steady and the village over the other side at Bunyola has a great square where the first coffee of the day is tremendous.

In fact we used to do an evening ride to a beautiful little village only a few km's from Soller called Fornalutx, I think someone else mentioned it on the thread.

There are a few planned rides out from P D Soller and the big one is up and over the Puig major, which is best tackled before it is too hot and over the far side the tourist coaches appear. This is about 10km long but never gets above 7%, you can then do Sa Colobra and if the legs don't have it in them to get you back over, there is a ferry that will take you and the bike back to Soller.

Loved the holiday, including the best Gin and Tonics in the world at a small restaurant over at the North end of the bay, about the last one, wow.

Whereever you stay you will have a great time.

Kudos for cycling in August, that would be too hot for me, even going early in the morning!

It's great that more people are getting to know the South of the island as it has some truly great rides.

As it happens, we're organising one in September....! (See below)

That was me. It's a lovely little village. It's so picture perfect that it often gets used for fashion shoots.

Damn, I want to go back now...

I also stay in peguera. The ride to puig major up / back over soler & three other climbs is very doable -- I think about 2000m or so in 140 km. and you are also right on all the coastal rides -- I also take the coast up to soler via deia. Again under 2000m and a little over 100 km round trip. There are flatter routes but quite boring.

Just come back across this thread, didn't see your post before.

We love Paguera, although I have to say the Rendezvous discotheque (the haven for middle aged Germans) hasn't been quite the same since Ricky Dee, the croaking wheezing silver haired doyen of the decks retired. :D

Casa Luis up in Cala Fornells is always great food, as is the steak house right at the other end of town, and it's just a short cab ride to Port Andrax for all the bars and fish restaurants on the harbour.

...oh yes and dead handy for the mountains!
