Why are bikes getting so damned expensive?

I 2001 i bought a ridgeback velocity hybrid for £350 with Deore all over. you would have to spend double that now to find a bike with that groupset.

I've been thinking of getting a Cyclocross bike this year, and i have my eye on the Cannondale CAADX 105.

but you have the likes of the Trek Crossrip Elite 2015 at the same price bracket with Sora??

    Just inflation alone would put that £350 cost at £515 today.

    And don't forget most factories are now in China / Taiwan to make them even cheaper to produce.

    Argh trek is rubbish. The doping programmes are more expensive these days. They need the money.
