These look good.
I have these, currently with free tyres, they spin well, they're strong (I'm 85kg) and they're a good weight. I have so many old wheels kicking around and for the money these are as good as anything I've got.
They obviously aren't as a good as a £500 wheel set although they feel very similar to my old American classic victory wheels. If they last a long enough I'll be buying another set.0 -

You guys have made me think I should probably buy a tool for checking the rim thickness on the 5s - any suggestions regarding this?
You need a point micrometer or an iwanson dental gauge/caliper.0 -

Apologies, I can see that must have looked like a rather daft first post. What do you mean about Superstar 'back to their old ways?'
My phrasing wasn't great, to the OP I merely meant to say that I've spent a lot of time myself researching with a similar budget and for me felt that the Superstars appeared worth looking into.
Here's to a better third post!
Welcome to the forum.
A few days ago I was looking at some wheels on Chain Reaction Cycles which I know are problematic, however they had a very high average score from (a small number of) buyers... taking a bit of time to read the reviews, all the reviewers commented on how they looked just out of the box. It is a problem of the industry... online retailers stress you to get a review a couple of weeks after you bought the product, which is too soon to say something sensible, while 6 months later you tend to get lazy and forget to review (when a review would be more meaningful). That's why fora are useful, as you generally get opinions from people who have used the product.left the forum March 20230 -
No point in taking risks with rim wear on the present set.
Fulcrums seem to work well enough for you, why not get another set of 5's or 7's?
Alternatively, Shimano R500/501's can be got for <£100. Cheap enough, light enough and should stand up to winter riding better than those cheapish 1500g wheelsets. Not 11 speed though.0 -
If £200 is your budget and Zondas is what you really want, Ribble have them on sale for £225, but there's an additional 10% off this weekend. Puts the price at £202 with free postage.

I've just bought some Fulcrum Quattro's on there for £176 - I've been watching them on lots of websites for a few months and thats the cheapest I've seen them by about £30.0 -

Be aware they are Campag fit only. Ribble don't sell the Shimano fit for some reason. (But it is the best price you will find anywhere)0 -

but if he's on 11 speed, it makes little difference... the price of an Athena cassette difference, in factleft the forum March 20230 -

The only problem I find with campag is there cassette sizes, I like a 11-28 which is hard to come by compared to a £35 Ultegra one.0

True, is less than ideal. Miche make some "reasonably priced" 11 speed cassettes splined for Campagnolo... there might be othersleft the forum March 20230 -
Cheers for the ideas guys but I'm 10 speed 105. Still procrastinating...0

The price difference on say an Ultegra cassette (£35) and an Athena (Chorus) cassette (£75) is quite a bit. You'll buy at least 2 cassettes (maybe more) for the lifespan of the wheel so for the £80 more it will have cost you in cassettes you might as well pay a little more any pick up some Shimano Freewheel Zondas.0 -
I had the same question and recently purchased some Shimano RS610 from Chain Reaction Cycles. I like that they are tubeless although I will likely ride them with tubes most of the time.
What do others think of this wheelset?

Have used loads of wheels over the years and in the last 10 years have used Shimano,Fulcrum and Mavic. Got to say the Cero AR24 are great for the money with spare spokes and rim tapes. Have done many miles and still true as the day I got them. Also the guys there are really helpful which is always a plus !0

I would recommend these from Merlin great set of wheels for the price.

Still true after two seasons and I weigh 90kg, very stiff wheel for how light they are.
They are 11 speed also although Merlin state that they are 100 -
Came to this thread from the Facebook page, I'm not a roady but I feel there is one option missing.
Build your own, I built a set of MTB wheels using all new parts that weighed in at just 1432g using purchases mostly off EBay, total cost was £180, buying new complete wheels I couldn't have got anywhere close, even buying good wheel sets used I couldn't.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
If you build your own and hunt out bargins then you can get a cheap wheelset but if it your first wheelset it may take all day to build them and some people will get lost on the way. Wheel building while a fairly straight forward process (it not an art really) does take time.
Miche Reflex wheels are pretty good for £120. not light but they are relaible and 11 speed compatible.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0
