So, my Open Pro has finally bitten the dust after more than 8k miles of all weather riding and needs replacing. I am a cheapskate so want to replace it with a cheap rim but I need it to be robust as I am 80kg. I was thinking of spending around £30 to £40 and I have seen the Stans Alpha 400 for around that which I thought it was a good price, unless they are made of cheese ofc. Failing that which other rims would you recommend. They need to be 32h btw.

    Kinlin XC-279?
  • If you want something for all weather riding, go for Ambrosio Evolution or Excursion, a lot of brake track to plow through... they are generally 20-40 pounds

Heretic - the Evolution is 80g heavier than the Stans Alpha 400  but it is a good price.

The Kinlin only goes up to 28h.

you don't rate the Stans Alpha 400 then?

Fair enough, the evolution looks like a good deal thanks.

the 32H Kinlin XC-279 is listed in the catalogue and the distributor has I stock I checked yesterday. given it high stiffness most people inlcuding me don't stock it but it is very much available.

Lesson here do not rely on wht you can find on line as guide as to what i available. Try picking up the phone once in while and call an actual shop! Much more is normally available than you can see on line. Online you see what sells quickly.

Also all stans rim are best run tubeless or you end up risking blowoff on hot sunny day after a bit of braking.
