I am afraid I can not help you but does anyone know why helicopter tape is so called.

Used on the blade leading edge to prevent damage from stone chips etc. Also found in many applications for similar reasons.

Make sure you get the outdoor/UV resistant version of the tape.

On this subject, what areas would you protect on a bike with helitape?

A new carbon frame with internal cabling.

Where the cables rub on the headtube as you turn the bars. I rubbed right through the paint to bare metal there on an aluminium alloy bike.

With a new carbon framed bike just arrived I have received 3 small oval clear patches, and I'm considering using them instead of tape, but I'm not convinced they are big enough.

My frame is carbon and in Matt graphite grey and when the helicopter tape is applied it goes to gloss....looks censored but the would look worse with marks all over it I will provide a pic tomorrow
