Did a search on the total surface area of a bike, found someone had calcu-estimated 1 sq m. I'll assume 2 sq m for now.
density of gold 11,340 kg/m3; thickness of typical gold plating .0004 mm; price of gold 26,380 £ per kg;

Put all this together and you get a total amount of gold used at 9 grammes, worth around £240 .

Even the weight weenies wouldn't worry too much about that :?:

So you could probably gold plate your own for about 1-2K all in.
