Ultegra wheelset

I have finally made the decision to retire my Ultegra wheelset after spending several minutes trying to find my wear indicator before realising it wasn't there anymore. They've seen me through 8,500 miles through all weathers so not too bad.
Not flush at the moment so have decided to go for the Fulcrum 7's. Seem pretty good value for a winter set?

Is that normal only to get 8500 miles out of wheels, thought it would be more than that? Better check mine as they've done more than that.0

Depends on the wear on the rims which a lot is dependent on the conditions they are ridden in. 8,500 doesn't seem out of scope for this.0 -
Back roads full of mud and crap usually.0

Front is fine but the rear has gone. Probably got a little life left in it so will keep as a emergency pair. Fulcrum 7's seem to get a pretty good write-up. It was between Fulcrums and Mavic Askium's.0

I've used both Aksiums & Fulcrum 5s as my winter wheels for several years and they've both been pretty bombproof without feeling like they're made of cast iron0

Can't really advise on the Fulcrum's, but I have Aksiums on both of my bikes and have had no problem with them at all. Admittedly this is the first winter that I have had them on the winter trainer/commuter, (nowhere near as many miles as the other set have done on my summer/carbon/sportive bike) so I don't know about the longevity in the crap weather yet. I think you can pick up a pair for £150 or better (Decathlon are £149.99).0 -

My Aksiums (2009 or '10 model) have done 12k mainly dry miles and are still in good shape. They needed truing early on, which I gather isn't unusual because Mavic send their wheels out of the factory quite loose.
I've also put a couple of thousand miles into my Fulcrum 7s bought last April and am very happy with them.
I would buy either type again.0
