please could you advice which would be most suitable frame choice for me to build my first bike.

Usage: recreation & commuting

1-planet X frameset
http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/FRSABEQUIP ... race-frame or
http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/FRSABMSTXC ... race-frame

2-CUBE Peloton Frame

3-try to hunt used Cannondale caad5 or caad8 at affordable good price

Thank you very much for your support

I would rule out the CAAD if this is your first build.

BB30 pressfit bottom bracket so probably not the best place to start if you are a novice builder. Obviously you could get your LBS to fit the BB but that would take away a little bit of the satisfaction. Don't get me wrong - I think the CAAD's are great frames but they will add a little more complexity to the build process.

Of the others - not a lot to choose really. I like the look of the Cube over the 2 Planet X offerings but that is just a pesonal taste thing.
  • thanks a lot , i would be very appreciative if you have other suitable recommendations for me @arlowood

Agree- basically any one with a BSA bottom bracket. Other than that its just based on looks, size and price! Those SABs look great value, also the Cube for that matter!
  • BSA Caad8 frames exist. The 2300 and Claris versions of the 8 and the Synapse both have threaded bb's, so you needn't rule them out.

Cotic Roadrat or Genesis Day One.

If you're serious about commuting on it and want to use it as an all-round, all-weathers bike then go for something with disc brakes, a steel frame for that bit of comfort and that can be ridden fuss-free for miles. Personally I'd have the Roadrat (but they haven't got any L at the moment!) but any of those listed would be good.

Kinesis Crosslight Disc if you want alloy.
    Trail fun - Transition Bandit
Road - Wilier Izoard Centaur/Cube Agree C62 Disc
    Allround - Cotic Solaris

Be careful with those SAB frames. The BB is generally Italian fit. A friend of mine found out the hard way.

Have built 3 bikes over the past 18 months, the first around an alloy frame (Forme Longcliffe), the second an old style carbon frame (2002 Trek 5200) and my current bike is built up from a 2012 era Genesis Equilibrium 725 steel frame.

If you're budgeting around £60 for frame only all of the above would break your budget. From memory I paid around £200 for the Forme , around £220 for the Trek (Ebay auction) and £200 for the Genesis (classifieds on this site). These were all frame + forks, so even if you add £70 for a set of forks to your frame budget, it still falls below what I've paid in the past.

If you're lucky you may be able to pick up an Equilibrium frame on Ebay but they are sought after and don't usually go cheaply. One alternative might be to search for one of the Genesis Volant alloy frames. I bought a small sized Volant before Christmas and built it up with straight bars for my grandson.

I've spotted one on EBay that might be worth considering if the size is right.

Other places to look might be the Ribble website where you could opt for their 7005 alloy Sportive frame at £110 + forks at £66

They also offer a 525 steel frame at £161 + forks at £60

What's peoples opinions on the Ribble steel frame? I'm thinking of building up one for not only winter use but those wet summer days we have.

The blue ones? Legend in their own right. Cheap, bombproof, look good, last forever, will take all manner of kit and do absolutely everything.

You could also consider one of the older Genesis Equilibrium steel framesets. Well regarded and versatile.

Have PM'd you with some further info.
