Hi guys looking at a new bike. My limit is about £1300. I ride and race XC and spend some time on the moors. I have narrowed my choices down to 2. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/ghos ... prod111453 or http://www.evanscycles.com/products/tre ... lsrc=aw.ds . only thing against the ghost is the triple chainset but I can easily change that. Can someone give me second opinion?

Not sure why you have an issue with a triple?

The Ghost is generally better equipped, especially on the brakes, also a better chainset, much better bet.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

yeah I just have a thing against triples in the sense of not knowing why they are needed? Small ring is too small to have any use for and the big ring tends to be too big for any real reason apart from on the road. Have you had experience with Ghost?

No direct experience with Ghost, but not heard anything bad either.

You could change the crankset to a double but it seems a waste of money, if you do, do it before riding the bike so the old cranks are 'as new', or just learn to use a triple!
