cleaning braking surfaces

Hi all,
Any tips on cleaning braking surfaces? After a recent wet ride, I've been left with small circles of dirt, kind of like dirty water marks on my rear wheel aluminium braking surfaces only. They won't scrub off with water/soap/muc-ff bike cleaner and a brush/sponge. They'll come off if I scratch them off with my nail, but it would take weeks! No idea what they are! Perhaps some sort of surgical spirit would work?
Thoughts very welcome!
Best.

Assuming you have cleaned your bike anyway, the marks will come off the next time you use your brakes...0

Sounds like the kind of surface corrosion I see when I've been out on gritted roads and not washed the bike immediately I'm home.
As already suggested, find yourself a steep hill to ride down then jam on the brakes to clean up your rims a treat.0 -
You've probably hit the nail on the head, keef66! It was a salty ride, and yes, I didn't clean the bike until the next morning. Haven't ridden it since, but should have guessed that it might sort itself out.
Thanks!0 -
You could also get one of these:

Specifically for cleaning rim brake tracks. They work quite well I find.Open One+ BMC TE29 Seven 622SL On One Scandal Cervelo RS0 -
Same thing here http://www.my-tool-shed.co.uk/p5568/Gar ... _info.html and cheaper 3 grit grades to choose from this is the medium.0
