Well, trees.

Several on my commute along the Taff Trail this morning. Including this beauty:

I tweeted Cardiff City Council to ask when it would be removed. They responded to ask me where it was.

I replied, told them, and wondered why they weren't already aware since a) it's quite large and b) they've put tape round it already ;)

That would be me then! I got there around 7:30 and successfully made it around the roots on my equilbrium. The cyclocross bike is still at home.

  • I knew it was there. Or at least, I knew it was down and fully expected Cardiff City Council to have done nothing about it.

I mean, it's not as if it's a particularly busy commuter cycling route, is it!

My first reaction to this thread was "What was a tree doing on a bike anyway?"

The forest out the back of us lost about 70 trees, our ash tree lost some big branches (it's a huge ash) and we also lost some tiles off our roof. Worst damage since we've been in the Highlands

All I lost was a section of plastic roofing.

However, when I say lost I mean completely lost - it is nowhere to be found. There's either a neighbour downwind with an interesting new garden ornament or it's floating down the river / canal

Oh, and watching the planes landing at EMA was a hoot. They basically went over my house sideways

  • I find that section of the Taff Trail a PITA in anything other than daylight (only use it during the summer), imagine blasting in to that at 06:30 in the morning

I'd clear it for free if I could keep the wood & it wasn't 200 miles away 8)

  • I think that there was a bloke doing just that yesterday. Was walking towards it with a trolley. To be honest I don't think Cardiff City Council are at all bothered about people taking it. In fact their approach to fallen trees appears to be to leave them in situ as a nature reserve.

  • I jumped on to the Taff Trail at Tongwynlais this morning due to them pulling up the road surface on Coryton, it's not very nice in the dark even with good lights ~ I think I was overly cautious after seeing this thread in case I hit any fallen branches and was flung in the taff.

  • It's actually quite pleasant at the moment. More or less totally dried out. So nice to ride on. I'd expected icier bits. So have snow tyres on this week.

  • Same here, first time with snow spiked tyres though ~ Running those at 50 PSI certainly slowed me down but it was kinda fun, I was hoping for more ice.

I was on the taff trail at 06:15 and didn't see anyone, I had a bad feeling that an animal was going to jump into my path at one point. I may have to try it a couple of more times.

I took me about 5 minutes longer than usual (usually takes me about 65 minutes to do the 18 miles or so. They provide a very interesting workout. I don't think we'll need them after the weekend but I'll leave them on this week. Wednesday on looks sketchy. Good to have that protection.

  • I could have done with some studs on sunday, I had the back end out three or four times before calling it a day and heading home. The rain forecast for tuesday night could make wednesday morning interesting!

The only animals to fear between Tongwynlais and the city centre are suicidal squirrels making a leap through your spokes and the odd out of control dog in Hailey Park.

Mostly ok. Slight hole in bibs to sew.

Came off on first bridge exit as you exit the ambulance station fields in direction of city centre. Turning right up the incline, front slid away
